Morph Update Version 0.14: MPE, Touchpads, Thresholds, and LEDs

We are excited to announce the release of Version 0.14 of the Firmware and Sensel App. This version includes the first full version of the new MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) for the Sensel Morph, the ability to remap Touchpad Control Areas, change any other Control Area to be a Touchpad, and added Thresholds/LEDs to each Control Area.

Go to the Sensel Support Page to download the latest Sensel App (currently 0.14.8) and make sure to update your Morph to the latest firmware (currently 0.14.116).

##MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) Release

It has been great to see the positive response to MPE on the Sensel Morph. Today, we are releasing a version that adds on to the existing version to provide some of the options requested by the community, including the ability to change the pitch bend range, set the pressure threshold, and turn the entire Morph into a MPE device.

First, rather than having to import any Maps, there are two new options in Overlays menu (Piano MPE and Music Production MPE) that offer a default mapping with MPE for these two Overlays.
When you click on an MPE Control Area, you can now see Pitch Range and Threshold in addition to the previous Note, X, Y and Pressure. The Pitch Range offers control over how much of the pitch bend range should be used on the note. Since different applications interpret pitch bend differently, we have labeled the options Full, 1/2, 1/6, 1/12, and 1/24. Full uses the maximum 16384 values and the others represent fractions of this range. Threshold offers control over how much pressure is required in order to activate the Control Area. 0 is the most sensitive and 10 is the least sensitive.

The Pitchbend Disable and Velocity Disable buttons now work on MPE. The Pitchbend button disables X and Y for MPE and Velocity button disables Pressure. Therefore, we have set the default state for MIDI on startup to have Pitchbend and Velocity activated by default. If you need to disable them, press the Pitchbend Disable and Velocity Disable buttons. When these features are disabled, the LEDs for these toggles turn on. You can reset Pitchbend, Velocity and Octave by pressing the reset button (Loop).

We have also added a MPE No Overlay option. If you click on your Morph, select MPE from the dropdown, and then press “Send Map to Morph”, you can turn the bare sensor into a full MPE instrument. In the future, we will add global settings that will allow you to further customize this No Overlay mode.

We hope you enjoy the MPE update. We will have more updates in the future!

##Touchpads

Now, every Control Area can become a touchpad and vise versa. You can make a pad on the Music Production overlay a trackpad, and you can make the trackpad area on the Gaming Overlay a MPE pad that supports multi-touch. Enjoy!

##Thresholds and LED

Each Control Area now has Threshold and LED options. The Threshold is the pressure required in order to activate the Control Area. 0 is the lowest threshold and the most sensitive. 10 is the highest and the least sensitive. The LED toggle enables and disables LED feedback when pressing the Control Area.

##Future Updates

We are still working on many improvements. We will continue to keep the community informed on these updates. Thank you for your continued support!
