Static cling vinyl for templates?

Thinking about the obvious (if not critical, IMO) need for customized templates, I’m wondering if using static cling sheets would be an interesting solution. E.g. these:

Cutting holes in them would probably be important for things where you want your finger to slide (like sliders) on the bare surface, and there now appear to be inexpensive cutters that might easily do the job:

For small custom runs, there are services that print such things:

This solution would not have the benefit of having the magnetic detection mechanism that the “real” Sensel templates have, but the flexibility and quick production of templates would, I think, far outweigh that benefit.

hello @timthompson :wave:t2: it’s a big fan of yours who writes hereby.
I remember this post, it is still a great topic when it happens to fantasize about new DIY consoles… my search for interesting materials has not ended since then.
I am going to use static cling vinyl in order to label the strings on a prototype based on soft stripes of gel that are absolutely amazing for finger sliding and should be able to handle a strumming performance… there is still so much room to continue experimenting!
Thank you for inspiring me to play with a constant sense of curiosity and a steady wonder feeling.
